An ongoing outbreak of Faux Fever has been declared in the Prototypia region. Crews attending patients with recent travel to affected areas should apply Level 3 PPE while VHF is being excluded.
Faux Fever
Fauxvirus haemorrhagicusFaux Fever is a severe viral haemorrhagic fever caused by Fauxvirus haemorrhagicus. It has a high case fatality rate and is a High Consequence Infectious Disease. Transmission requires direct contact with blood or body fluids of a symptomatic patient. It is not transmitted by the airborne route.

Hand hygiene using the 3Rs. Contact HART before patient contact.
Place surgical mask on patient. Treat used linen as highly infectious.
Patient advisory
Contact HART immediately if Faux Fever is suspected. Do not transport without HART guidance. A surgical mask should be placed on the patient. All materials in contact with the patient must be treated as highly infectious. Used linen should be placed in a yellow bag.

Risk to clinicians
High if PPE is breached or hand hygiene fails. The virus is present at high titres in blood and body fluids of symptomatic patients. Risk from asymptomatic contacts is negligible.
