Patient advisory
Patients with suspected pulmonary tofurculosis should be advised to cover their mouth and nose. Prolonged exposure in an enclosed space (such as an ambulance) increases transmission risk. A surgical mask should be placed on the patient where tolerated.
Waste disposal — orange bag
Orange / infectious waste bag for all waste.
Vehicle and equipment
Normal clean between every patient with Clinell wipes.
Risk to clinicians
Moderate for pulmonary cases. Risk is primarily from prolonged close contact in enclosed spaces. Single short exposures carry low risk. Staff with known immunosuppression should seek occupational health advice.
